Artist Statement
My artworks (drawings/paintings/photographs/sculptures) are self-perpetuating and generally reflect my current environment and experiences. Each artwork brings me continuous learning and enjoyment as I negotiate the production process. My drawn marks, arranged compositions and created shapes aim to create visual interest, visual harmony, visual balance and visual tension.
Sand and Stone Photographic Exhibition in March 2019 was my sixth solo exhibition and second exhibition at Gordon Gallery. Forty-two A1 size artworks were displayed.
I created the photographic artworks from digital images taken on a 2018 trip north to Broadbeach and Noosa. I walked the beaches and found inspiration from the intricate patterns offered by sand, stone, shells and water. Returning home, I combined the images with graphic elements in various symmetrical and triptych arrangements. My final compositions emphasise the innate beauty of natural beach materials and their shaping by the sea.
The VK Shadow Series of drawings were inspired and a tributed to Wassily Kandinsky the Bauhaus master artist.
The Torso drawings, prints and paintings were inspired while travelling around Cuba as well as spending time in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
The Torso drawings also stimulated some 3-dimensional experimentation culminating in various sculptures.
The New Zealand Drawings were created and inspired while travelling around Auckland and spending time in Russell and the Bay of Islands. The Bay of Island drawings also stimulated some 3-dimensional experimentation culminating in various sculptures.
The solo exhibition in August 2015 at the Gordon Gallery Geelong displayed 32 drawings and 8 sculptures.
